Review of Infrastructure and Transport Projects in Batumi
Chairman of the Government of Adjara Zurab Pataradze, together with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, reviewed important infrastructure and transport projects in Batumi.
Government representatives arrived in Batumi by the Tbilisi-Batumi passenger train operating according to the updated schedule.
Travel Time on the Tbilisi-Batumi Route Has Been Reduced
As a result of railway infrastructure modernization, track rehabilitation, and the removal of restrictions that hindered movement, travel time on the Tbilisi-Batumi and Batumi-Tbilisi routes has been reduced to four hours.
At the same time, passenger stations have been renovated, existing trains are being modernized, and procurement procedures for a new passenger train have begun.
Zurab Pataradze: Fast and Comfortable Travel Is Especially Important
Zurab Pataradze noted that fast and comfortable travel is especially important during the tourist season.
“Today, we can already see that it is possible to arrive in Batumi in just four hours. At the peak of the tourist season, fast, safe, and comfortable travel is one of our main priorities, further increasing the region’s accessibility and tourist appeal,” said the Chairman of the Government of Adjara.
Development Potential of Batumi Seaport
Government representatives also visited Batumi Seaport and reviewed the capacity and development potential of the country’s maritime sector.
According to data from the first six months of 2026, Batumi Seaport maintained positive dynamics. Cargo turnover amounted to 2.5 million tons, while the number of processed containers increased by 14 percent compared to the same period last year.
Ferry Transportation with Bulgaria and Romania
Attention was also focused on direct ferry transportation between Batumi Seaport, Bulgaria, and Romania.
The number of ferry shipments on this route increased by 54 percent compared to last year.
Importance of the Middle Corridor and the Maritime Sector
According to the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, strengthening the Middle Corridor and developing the maritime sector are among the country’s key priorities.
“Cargo turnover is increasing year by year, transit opportunities are developing, and services are improving. Batumi has historically been a maritime city and continues to play an important role in the country’s economic development. Therefore, we pay special attention to the development of both port infrastructure and Batumi State Maritime Academy, so that young people can receive education and practical experience that meet international standards,” Zurab Pataradze stated.
Renovated Infrastructure of Batumi State Maritime Academy
The Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia also reviewed the renovated infrastructure of Batumi State Maritime Academy.
Government representatives inspected the modern engine room, updated simulators of the Seafarers’ Training Center, and the training pool.
Practical Training in Accordance with International Standards
A practical demonstration of personal survival techniques at sea was held in the training pool.
The modern educational infrastructure gives students and active seafarers the opportunity to receive education in line with international standards and develop practical skills in an environment as close as possible to real conditions.
Participants in the Project Review
The projects were reviewed on site by representatives of the Government of Adjara, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Parliament of Georgia, Georgian Railway, Batumi Seaport, and Batumi State Maritime Academy.
