Prosecutor’s Office Launches Investigation

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into treason and sabotage.
The information was released on August 7, 2026.

Grounds for Launching the Investigation

The investigation was launched based on a statement submitted by the LEPL State Service of Veterans Affairs.
The case concerns a statement made by Giorgi Baramidze, a member of the United National Movement, regarding the Abkhazian war and the prisoner exchange process on Iago Khvichia’s author program “The Birth of Georgia.”

Legal Qualification

The investigation was launched under Articles 307¹ and 318 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
These articles concern treason and the creation of a threat to Georgia’s state interests.

Investigative Actions

All necessary investigative and procedural actions will be carried out by the investigative body.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the public will be provided with additional information on the results of the investigation.
