Merab Ghoghoberidze, head of the non-governmental organization “Georgia — Information Center for Combating Corruption,” has released his position regarding accusations made against the Georgian state.
According to him, any person who makes slanderous and unsubstantiated accusations against the Georgian state is obliged to support such accusations with reliable facts and evidence.
Accusations Against Georgia
In Merab Ghoghoberidze’s assessment, statements alleging that Georgia is helping Russia wage war are particularly serious.
He notes that such accusations cannot be based solely on political assessments or unsubstantiated statements and must be backed by factual evidence.
Need for Legal Assessment
The statement notes that if such serious accusations are not supported by evidence, the relevant law enforcement authorities should examine these statements and provide a legal assessment in accordance with the law.
Disinformation and State Interests
According to Merab Ghoghoberidze, the deliberate spread of disinformation against state interests, especially when it harms Georgia’s international reputation and security, must not be left without a response.
Equality Before the Law
The statement emphasizes that every person, regardless of their political status or previous position, is equal before the law.
If competent authorities establish that a specific person has committed a crime provided for by law, that person must be held accountable in accordance with Georgian legislation.
