Public Statement

The non-governmental organization “Georgia — Information Center for Combating Corruption” is calling for renewed state oversight and a comprehensive review of renovation works carried out at Batumi Public School No. 22 and other recently rehabilitated public schools.

Appeal to Relevant State Authorities

Regarding circumstances identified during its monitoring, the organization is appealing to the relevant state authorities, including the competent investigative service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the anti-corruption division of the State Security Service.
The organization calls for the matter to be examined immediately and, where sufficient grounds exist, for appropriate measures provided for by law to be taken.

Possible Inefficient Use of Public Funds

According to the organization, its monitoring identified circumstances that may indicate the improper or inefficient use of public funds and the possible irrational expenditure of the state budget.
The organization emphasizes that these circumstances require further examination and assessment by the competent state authorities.

Request to Consider Suspending Renovation Works

The organization calls for renovation and façade works to be suspended, if necessary, until the matter has been fully investigated and appropriate oversight has been carried out.
According to the statement, such a measure would be intended to prevent additional public funds from being spent on facilities whose condition and the quality of already completed works require further assessment.

Need for State Oversight

According to the organization, the relevant state authorities should examine the scope and quality of the completed works, their compliance with the approved project, and whether the expenditures were properly and efficiently used.
The final legal and financial assessment falls within the competence of the relevant state authorities.
